Our History
Based in the Mission District of San Francisco, Grace Urban Ministries, Inc. (GUM) was established in 1996. At that time, a key partnership formed between Dayspring Partners, Grace Fellowship Community Church, and GUM around local economic development and ministry with youth from underserved neighborhoods.
Together, we ran a ministry where youth learned job readiness and were placed in internships. Dayspring provided internships and part-time employment for youth, providing a place to explore careers in tech and media.
Dayspring Community Partners, Inc. (DCP) was the new name adopted by Grace Urban Ministries in 2017 when Grace Fellowship released formal ties to GUM. At that time, the geographical focus shifted from the Mission District to the Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood, with key partners Dayspring Partners, Redeemer Community Church, and Rise University Preparatory. Neighbor Fund, a revolving loan fund for Bayview small businesses started in 2014, became a program of Dayspring Community Partners.
While DCP continues to enjoy a close partnership with Dayspring Partners, our board felt that the similarity in our names-Dayspring Community Partners and Dayspring Partners could lead to confusion. Additionally, we wanted a name that would reflect the broader range of friendships and partnerships we have developed over the years. Thus, our new name is Neighbor Partners.
